Bucktail
Path
“Southern
Trailhead”
-
Turn
Right out of Wapiti Woods onto SR 555 East.
- Follow SR 555 along
the Bennett Branch of Sinnemahoning Creek and drive through the villages
of Medix Run, Benezette, Grant, Dents Run and Hicks Run, for 20.5 miles.
- Cross the Driftwood
Branch (currently a one lane bridge and in process of being replaced)
and make a series of sharp turns (right, left, cross the railroad tracks,
left and right) for 0.2 miles coming to the intersection of SR 120 in
the village of Driftwood.
- The Bennett Branch
meets the Driftwood Branch in Driftwood making the Sinnemahoning Creek.
- Turn right onto
SR 120 East. Go 3.0 miles to Sinnemahoning. As you enter into Sinnemahoning,
you will pass the Sinnemahoning Sportsmens Club on the left and start
a gentle drop into the village. Turn left onto Grove Street (the post
office will be on your right and a directional sign for Bucktail Path
is at the start of the street).
- Follow Grove St.
for 0.3 miles, past a piped spring on the right side, to a trail sign
and parking area on the right side at the end of the street (the street
runs into a gated driveway at the end of Grove St.).
- The Southern trailhead
for Bucktail Path starts across Grove Run. You will need knee high rubber
boots to cross this creek for most of the hiking season. Just leave
them behind a tree for your return trip across the creek. During high
water times you will need hip waders to get across (watch as the creek
moves fast).
